Goals They Are A-Changing

I’ve been working with some of my clients for a lot of years now. One for more than 12 years, another coming up on 10 and a few others not far behind. In a world of 6 weeks to better abs, and 30 day cleanses, that timeframe isn’t often accounted for. It offers us at TFN a unique perspective as we have quite a few clients (and trainers) who’ve been with us for a decade and it’s truly a privilege.

One of the cool things is every one of these long-term clients has changed their training goal at some point. Strength might be the emphasis for a while, then maybe some hypertrophy or adding muscle, maybe a re-emphasis on bone density into aging, maybe accounting for perimenopausal symptoms that make training go haywire, or maybe even just wanting to lean up a bit for Summer.

The best thing about strength, it’s the most general of qualities. But general, not as in boring, but as in the most applicable to everything else the body can do. When you get strong, you can do whatever it is you want, a little bit better. It’s the ultimate force multiplier. It’s why we have age groups in youth sports, and it’s what keeps folks independent in assisted-living.

And so the goals can change, and they should, as new interests, come and go, and the river of life flows onward. But strength is a base that never goes away because it makes you better at everything else. Which is the point, isn’t it? A life lived fully and well. Thank you all for allowing TFN to be a part of that.
